Gets you behind the scenes at 3 of Sydney’s best Drinks Producers
3 HOURS OF LOCAL DRINKS DISCOVERY
Well it’s more like 4 and a bit hours due to traffic. But it’s well worth it to truly discover the best local beer, wine and spirit spots in town on any given day.
WHERE YOU WILL GO*
Based in Rosebery, Archie Rose is one of the first craft distilleries, making vodka, gin, rye and currently aging whiskey they have a vast selection of spirts. You’ll be walked through the process of how these spirits are made and have a taste of each one at the end.
With a commitment to Serving the People, the tattoo-clad team behind Young Henrys are all about bringing locally brewed beer and gin to the Inner West. Their authentic community feel is ever present in the brewery, distillery and tasting bar, where we delve deep behind the scenes and work our way through their range of beers.
Staying in Marrickville, a short trip down the road takes us to the Batch Brewing Company. Here we will chat with the owners, Andrew and Chris, about how they started up brewing and setting up in a converted smash repair shop. We then retire to sample some of their wares in the tasting bar and maybe try our hand at a game of ‘cornhole’!
Time to squeeze in one more brewery, the excellent Rocks Brewing in Alexandria. This Australian-owned and operated craft brewery is lead by fifth and sixth generation convict descendants. We begin with a tour of their state-of-the-art brewery before trying “the kinds of ales your grandfather and your grandfather’s father used to drink”. They also have an impressive food menu if you are still hungry!
Urban Winery Sydney is a fully-functioning city-based commercial winery, with a cellar door in Sydney’s inner west suburb of St Peters.
It is a commercial winery that processes at least 50 tonnes of grapes annually. Taste directly from the barrel and see how wine changes as it ages and try and little wine blending.
From humble beginnings their first batches of pale ale were made at Young Henrys, just down the road. There brewery and style is reminiscent of Sydney’s old-school pubs but with much much better beer. Have a try of their Pale Ale and Big Sur IPA.
